I said it in other posts and I'll say it again here:
I will game on a Windows based PC, but Linux is a must have on hand held at this time - Windows is too resource intensive, developers are not going to be able to get the same OS optimization out of Windows that they can with Linux.
The performance between windows and linux (assuming it runs) is generally noise. In rare occasions, Linux has the advantage but that is more to do with needing to prebuild all the shaders (and is why games are increasingly doing that on both "platforms").
Linux (probably) has the advantage on disk space (I know some distros give Windows a run for its money, not sure on SteamOS). But in terms of performance? Any dev who is specifically targeting a "steam deck" is targeting a general performance window which will make all the devices in that range benefit.
That said: I am REAL skeptical of the Arc GPU. Intel have been making great strides (Gamers Nexus did a good video on this a month or two back) but it is still... yeah. But that is more drivers than OS (although... how are the linux drivers compared to the windows ones for that hot mess?).
Based on windows 11.. yea hard pass for me, too resource intensive for any feasible portable gaming.
Yay another portable tracking device and privacy violator...no thanks.
