I thought X was all about free speech and no censorship?

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago

So like, I can go on X and spew hateful lies about covid, about Jan 6, about trans people, about wokes, etc, but this crosses a line?

I don't understand how this could possibly get you banned.

Elon is such a fragile little snowflake.

A true free speech absolutist!

If the term 'mongoloid' is now verboten, can we modify to apply to a singular individual, say Elongoloid..?

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I’d rather not

Mongoloid in that context is a reference to people with Down’s syndrome having similar eyes to Asian people, who were referred to as the mongoloid race.

Using elongoloid I think just brings back the dehumanization of those two groups. Plus it uses people with downs as a benchmark for stupidity, which I think is wrong (there’s a very wide spectrum of capability for Downs people).

I like the Forest Gump philosophy: “stupid is as stupid does”, and Elon Musk does more stupid on a daily basis than any downs person I’ve ever met, and probably in all of history.

Side note: my sister has Downs, so making fun of them is a bit of a trigger for me. I like a good natured ribbing and can take jokes, but that’s my off limits area. I hope you don’t take my comment the wrong way, I’m not mad or offended, just throwing in my thoughts.

Personally pissing off President Musk is going to become a great little pastime of anyone with some extra time on their hands and I am absolutely in favour.

I'm envisioning a commemorative t-shirt, along the lines of:
"I was banned/demonetized for criticizing X or its CEO."

Geez! Tone down the rhetoric!
