CW internalised transphobia

Tap for spoilerMy doubt-filled brain immediately going "See now you can check weather you are really trans or just making it up in your head muahaha"

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 hours ago

You really are exactly what you really are. Whether that's cis, or trans, or NB, or a secret fourth thing, those are all just labels. The label doesn't matter. What does matter is whether you feel that you're doing the right thing for you. Everything, and I mean everything, is all made up in our heads. You are a brain inside a dark jar piloting a meaty skeleton on a spinning rock whipping through space. Even our direct sensory input is all mediated by the brain. Therefore, nothing is true, in a really empirical sense, in a way we're capable of measuring. Everything is all made up by the brain.

And if nothing is true, then everything is permitted. You do you, in the way that feels right to you, and don't you let anyone stop you. This is about your personal truths, which are as true to you as anything can be to anyone. If you think you really are trans then you are. If you think you aren't then you don't have to be. There is no objective measure of truth here.

What if the sword is transphobic

[–] hovercat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 32 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Behold, the unmatched power of ~~Storm~~Eggbreaker

[–] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 20 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Well I have been on hrt for 4 months so the egg is broken well and good. But still...the doubt persists :/)

As someone who is close to living half my life post-transition, I wouldn’t say it ever went away completely for me but I would say it doesn’t bother me anymore. Because like, so what if I’m not ‘really’ trans? I’m clearly and obviously happier now. I think that fear, for me, comes from on some level believing that if I find out I’m not trans that means I’ll have to detransition… a totally cis thing to fear 🤣

[–] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 5 points 7 hours ago

Thank you for the comment! Hearing different experiences is very helpful!

[–] hovercat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Congratulations! I'm just past a month, and I absolutely get it. It's especially fun on those days when you're feeling extra dysphoric 🥲

Something that's helped me a lot was realizing that it's just a really lazy coping/defense mechanism from the brain. Being trans is kind of (incredibly) scary, and so it's just those echos of fear and doubt saying "Well, maybe if you just weren't trans, things would be way easier!". Then you can calmly tell that to shut the hell up, and continue living your best life :3

[–] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 5 points 8 hours ago

Thank you, I love collecting coping mechanisms.

For me the question: "Am i cis then?" really helps too, cause I can confidently deny that one haha

curious how the sword handles non binary and trans people

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 9 hours ago

i feel it would make most sense for it to go off of self-identity (that's more magical), and if that doesn't jive with the curse it's just a normal somewhat dull sword or maybe it passes straight through them like a ghost?

[–] kittykittycatboys@lemmy.blahaj.zone 77 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

does reduced damage against nbs and respects yhe transed gender (its a cursed sword not a bigoted one meow)

[–] Flipper@feddit.org 35 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Should probably cut NBS just as well as men. The curse is to not cut women and they are not women.

[–] kittykittycatboys@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

woman and nb isnt mutually exclusive as far as ive seen so is variable amount of damagedependsing on howwoman the prrson thinks they are :3

[–] buffalobuffalo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Very true, the sword would have to pick a line to cut through the gender triangle.

Was going to suggest the sword might discern sex rather than gender, but we'd have a similar question of how the sword would classify intersex people.

[–] Stovetop@lemmy.world 12 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Or the curse is that it can cut through 1000 men but not anyone else.

[–] sukhmel@programming.dev 3 points 10 hours ago

This, we need more samples (but please don't)

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 44 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Imagine it a cursed sword of outing people, or a blessed sword of validation

[–] sukhmel@programming.dev 4 points 10 hours ago

That'd probably change the world forever. Besides, it would likely be hunted by all the people who want to destroy it.

[–] skygirl@lemmy.world 31 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

"Hey Witcher, why do you carry two swords?"

[–] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago

This one is for the ladies
