Hey y'all, i've been looking at buying a smartwatch for my mom that tracks her vitals and health since she's starting to get older. I was looking at the xiaomi smart band 9 and huawei band 9. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am skeptical about the general claim of tracking vitals and health. Do you have a specific idea what this would constitute? Quick research suggests different devices have different features they are known for even among the credulous.

Health data requires interpretation by someone who knows what they are doing. Is there someone who has requested this info and will be interpreting it on a regular basis? Otherwise you can easily be made pointlessly anxious by false positives or wrongly reassured.

She is diabetic but I don't think smart watches can track blood glucose. But I think it'd be nice for her to see her steps and heart rate and whatnot

If she has a continuous glucose monitor like a dexcom it can certainly display her blood glucose!

what do you learn from heart rate?

Hmm, it’s more like rate and rhythm. Atrial fibrillation detection and monitoring can be lifesaving. People have been warned by their watches to seek medical attention, because of heart pathology that manifests as changes in heart rate and rhythm. I don’t know the software side, and it’s possible for the watch to recognize certain abnormal patterns. General fitness info as well, max, min HR, time in various ‘heart rate zones’ ( and no I do not wish to expound on the validity of zone training, or HRV either. I’ll leave that for wiser minds. ).

I'm sure peope have been warned about all kinds of thing. Is there any benefit to this?

No idea about the Huawei, but I've used a xiaomi intermittently, and it's pretty good. My elderly grandma uses it to track her steps and O2 levels.

The bands are good, there's also the Nothing CMF watch which is alright. I think the Xiaomi band has better tracking, but the CMF watch does have some pretty watchface options.
