the fact that the kill caused insurance companies to take back reduced anesthesia access if a surgery goes long will save dozens of thousands of lives alone. medicare for all alone would not have accomplished that. (we still should very much have it.)

Except there were widespread riots in the civil rights era, violent unrest was a major factor behind the civil rights act. They’re trapped in the version of the civil rights era that we learn about in high school.
