Summary

Australian opposition leader Peter Dutton stated he would not stand beside Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander flags at press events if elected prime minister, arguing for unity under a single national flag.

Dutton called the use of multiple flags “confusing” and divisive.

Indigenous leaders and critics, including Mick Gooda and Minister Malarndirri McCarthy, condemned the stance as divisive and dismissive of Indigenous cultures, which are represented by official Australian flags.

This follows Dutton’s history of opposing symbolic Indigenous measures, including the Voice to Parliament referendum.

He's always been one of the most racist members of parliament. He threw a tantrum and boycotted the apology for the stolen generation during his early days as an opposition front-bencher.

If you're elected prime Minister, then the world has officially ended so do what you want you dickless fuckhead.

He's got a good chance. All he needs do is say "are you worse now than 3 years ago," while not providing a better solution than what we lived through

More than a good chance. Albo’s paralysed with the fear of fucking it up, and has the unmistakable stench of a one-term government. Given the media and the oligarchs’ bias, it’d be a miracle if he scrapes through.

And Elon is going to jump into our election for our regulator trying to bring Twitter into line with Aussie community expectations. Albo has no charisma, of we've learnt one thing about Trump is that politicians need to change and stop counting numbers

The best Australia can hope for is that Musk is too busy trying to make Nigel Farage the UK’s PM or kickstarting a Fourth Reich in Germany or something, and forgets all about this dusty corner of the South Pacific until it’s too late.

Yeah, seems most people have forgotten that inflation was already over 6% for the quarter when Liberal left office in 2022. Labor didn't cause the problem, they inherited it. And they helped start to bring down inflation within 6 months.

I'm not saying Albo and Labor are a godsend, but Liberal are a far worse choice. The Libs blew over $50 billion on the NBN screw up and Snowy 2.0. And their nuclear power project is already looking to easily exceed that.

…and completely ignoring that a lot of countries are struggling.

Sounds oh so familiar...

Certainly, we're going to have Musk and Murdoch pushing for Dutton to get in and our dumbass populace will buy whatever those two media networks are selling as usual.

If you are confused by seeing multiple flags you should not be PM

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

arguing for unity under a single national flag.

One flag, one volk, one fuhrer. I heard this one before.

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

Blatant racism.

We have multiple flags where I live. There's absolutely no confusion.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Yeah, those indigenous people should stop being confusing by having a flag and go back where they came from! Am I right?

You guys need to stop being divisive when that's his job!

[–] ThomasCrappersGhost@feddit.uk 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hang on lads, I’ve got a great idea…why don’t they create a new flag that represents everyone?

South Park is leaking again

I dunno. The first half was the original Italian Job.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Since his listing what flags he won't stand next to, I guess you have to assume anything he doesn't list he's willing to stand next to. Right? Doesn't that follow? So what flags is a cool with then?
