Every billionaire is a policy failure, whether they're a company owner, dictator, or streamer; they're all needlessly hoarding wealth, harming us all. If you have more money than you could ever spend while people freeze and starve in the street, you are part of the problem and a bad person...

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 26 points 4 weeks ago

B-b-b-but he gives some of it back! Something something effective altruism 🫠

[–] MataVatnik@lemmy.world 16 points 4 weeks ago

But he creates jobs! (that are extremely exploitative and past borderline abusive)

No one with as much money as he has is a good person.

He's basically just doing ethical bumfights, exploiting the victims of capitalism for YouTube views and thereby increasing his own wealth further.

it's an interesting moral question

if i give someone money and that alleviates their poverty, is that an ethical action? i think so. you are eliminating harm by reducing hunger, providing shelter, etc.

if i give someone money and that alleviates their poverty, but i do it for my own personal gain, is that an ethical action? you are still eliminating harm but you are doing it for an amoral reason.

ethical action, amoral motivation

then there's the perspective of by taking advantage of this individual, you are doing your part in perpetuating an unjust system. you are playing the role of the opiate of the masses. distracting and comforting those who are at the bottom of the pyramid.

having said all that, i think it's still more ethical than bumfights. although i couldn't tell you if it was ethical or not by its own

[–] NewNewAccount@lemmy.world 16 points 4 weeks ago

Defining ethics is a question as old as philosophy itself.

Based on some interviews there is nothing ethical about what this guy is doing. Based on one case I think he should be in jail

This guy is a giant turd with googly eyes slapped on it.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 33 points 4 weeks ago (6 children)

He does not smile with his eyes and I find that unsettling.

[–] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 15 points 4 weeks ago

It's a sociopath thing.

Googly eyes look more alive and soulful than he does by a long shot.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 55 points 4 weeks ago (6 children)

I still don't know who this cuck is besides a YouTube star that got rich off kids whose parents babysit them with tablets. How anyone can stand looking at the guys face or hear him talking is beyond me. His face just oozes sociopath / narcissist.

[–] loutr@sh.itjust.works 24 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

One thing about him I saw in a Lemmy comment a couple months back, is that in every picture of him smiling, if you hide his mouth you're left with his lifeless eyes, it's like he was told how you're supposed to smile when you're cheerful so he goes through the motions but he's not entirely sure what the point is. It works with all the pictures of him I came across since then, including the thumbnail of this post.

[–] SomethingBurger@jlai.lu 10 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Tbf smiling on command is hard.

[–] loutr@sh.itjust.works 15 points 4 weeks ago

Sure, but in every picture? Including some where he's supposed to actually have fun?

[–] yeahiknow3@lemmings.world 13 points 4 weeks ago

He is a narcissist of the highest order. Exploited kids with illegal and rigged lotteries.

This guy has that elon musk syndrome where he doesn't know shit about logistics, especially specifics of the industries he tripped over his money into and assumes he can just throw cash at every idea he half bakes and everything will work out.

[–] vxx@lemmy.world 25 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't think the stuff would be molding 2 months before the best before date if he threw money at it. It's a sign he cheaped out and is producing the stuff in an unhygienic facility.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 15 points 4 weeks ago

Given what happened with Mr Beast Burgers, he seems to pick the cheap option all the time.

[–] Default_Defect@midwest.social 34 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (3 children)

Do you guys have any idea how vindicating it is that people are finally seeing what a bunch of us suspected from the beginning? Mr. Beast has always come across as fake and I used to get SO MUCH SHIT for not fully supporting the guy making poor people compete for money to pay bills (and just giving the win to his friends instead).

Edit: typo

He's basically clickbait distilled into human form. If people stop paying attention to him he'll wither and die

He's a rich psychopath. Throw him in with the rest.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 11 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

But he hired lawyers to prove that he isn't

[–] affiliate@lemmy.world 11 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

interesting strategy to hire a lawyer for that instead of a psychologist

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 8 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It has to be on the top of rich-psycopathic responses to being called a psycopath

A person that made their entire brand and fortune off of having large amounts of wealth to throw around is not a good person?

I am shocked I tell you, shocked! Well, not that shocked.

[–] Wogi@lemmy.world 10 points 4 weeks ago

To "throw around"

Is an interesting way of working "give to his friends while committing sweepstakes fraud."

His brand has used our software service for the last couple of years, and his credit card declined the other day. I got a good chuckle.

[–] Jimmyeatsausage@lemmy.world 23 points 4 weeks ago

Dead eyes...like a doll's eyes.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 22 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

He’s a victim of his own success. He’s really good at gaming the YouTube algorithm and thinks that means he’ll be good at other things where he is definitely not an expert.

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 8 points 4 weeks ago

But by now he has enough money to fail upwards with zero skills

I've never even watched anything this guy has done. For a long time I didn't even know who he was when I saw stories about him. Between him and the Paul's idk what they are even famous for but I know they are pieces of shit

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 19 points 4 weeks ago

I wish I could go back two years and tell myself that soon everyone will hate this bucky asshole as much as I do.

[–] noxy@yiffit.net 17 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Looks like an asshole. I bet he sounds like one too, but I intend to never hear his voice.

[–] GenosseFlosse@feddit.org 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

He has this fake used car salesman smile that rubs me the wrong way...
