What's the Thai flag doing in the background?

[–] capital_sniff@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

Amazing a right winger taking advantage of the social safety net they spend all their time trying to destroy.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 72 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait, your mom is still alive?

You've been claiming Mexicans killed her by forcing her to take drugs (When in reality she was a nurse that stole controlled substances)

Man, fuck this guy.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

He meant his other mom.

[–] lolola@lemmy.blahaj.zone 167 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Vance’s mother was able to buy private insurance through the Affordable Care Act’s insurance marketplace, run by Ohio, after overcoming substance abuse, becoming financially stable, and earning too much to stay on Medicaid.

[–] MrVilliam@lemmy.world 77 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The interesting thing is that I'm not sure anybody gives a shit that his mom got help through the ACA. The story here is that he can't show any level of gratitude for the thing that has helped his own mother because he's such a partisan piece of shit. The ACA sucks, but healthcare in this country was a complete dumpster fire before it passed, and it will return to being a complete dumpster fire if it's repealed without a more expansive replacement in place.

This wouldn't be a story if Medicaid didn't have means testing attached which is how she lost eligibility. This wouldn't be a story if JD would show thanks for the healthcare plan modeled after what a Republican governor put together, but that would be perceived as disloyalty to his toddler-brained master. This wouldn't be a story if there were universal healthcare as there should be. He's between a rock and a hard place because he's too spineless to swallow his pride and show humanity even regarding the health of his own mom. Fucking pathetic.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

ACA only sucked cause Republicans blocked every attempt to address the faults and issues that only became apparent after rolling it out.

[–] MrVilliam@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Agreed. It was a half measure. Some action was desperately needed, and Republicans made sure that exactly some action was taken. They whine about the world passing us by while ensuring that we're unable to catch up.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It wasnt a half measure.

Its just, when you roll out a revolutionary change in the way things are done, like the ACA was, there are going to be issues that pop up after rollout that no one could predict.

Which is why you need follow up legislation to address those unpredictable holes/cracks/issues.

and unfortunately the only way thats gonna happen is with a supermajority of democrats who have the cajones to just ram the shit through without playing games and without trying to get the republicans involved, because the republicans will stop at nothing to prevent anything they see as a "win" for democrats, no matter how much misery and suffering it causes the American people. They'll watch their own mothers suffocate to death from preventable disease rather than let the dems have a "win".

and to top off the absolute miserable bastardry, they'll then run campaign ads for the next 12 months talking about how democrats are mother-smotherers

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

and unfortunately the only way thats gonna happen is with a supermajority of democrats who have the cajones to just ram the shit through without playing games and without trying to get the republicans involved

Do even Dems talk about further improvements or tiptoeing any closer to single payer these days? It has been seeming to me the insurance lobby has things sewn up pretty tight.

[–] bender223@lemmy.today 15 points 1 day ago

She bought healthcare from Obama? 😮

[–] _number8_@lemmy.world 78 points 1 day ago (3 children)

it's ridiculous how much we jerk off to being the greatest country in the world ever but we can't even have this basic quality of life feature that so many other countries have made work. fucking israel has universal healthcare! what a pathetic empire

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 28 points 1 day ago (2 children)

As someone who grew up outside the US, I can tell you that every developed country in the world casts itself as the greatest country on earth. Now, all of those countries, except the US, have most of the basics down, so there's that.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

I have lived in 5 countries and the USA is the only one that claims this we're the greatest bullshit all the time.

Every country loves itself, but the USA is psychotic about it

[–] bleistift2@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

every developed country in the world casts itself as the greatest country on earth

Not Germany.

For once.

And for the time being.

Kinda hard ti claim to be the greatest when youre stilling digging up bombs from when everyone else disagreed.

[–] horse@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

Germans are complainers by nature. But when you look at what they get up to when they think they're better than everyone else, it's probably better that way.

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's also ridiculous how much we jerk off to being the greatest country in the world but a man cannot admit to making sweet love to a couch.

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That... was oddly specific - and hillarious.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hey, thats all the more reason for us not to have it.

We're America, god damnit. American Exceptionalism demands we pave a different path. A rugged path. Like the men of the wild west! We cant use the same idea everyone else has, thats just filthy socio-communism!

We’re America, god damnit. American Exceptionalism demands we pave a different path. A rugged path.

A path directly toward the cliff edge and then straight off of it into the ravine below!

[–] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

Thelma and Louise is the Great American Movie.

Don't worry, you'll be fine as long as you don't look down!

You're kidding, but the arguments I have heard against better healthcare in this country boil down to pretty much this.

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 81 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We all know under Trumps concepts of a plan she would get super extra special care. In other words she would be dumped on skid row and bankrupt.

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'll be damned if my tax dollars are going to fly her to LA under that plan.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] AutistoMephisto@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah. Every city in America will have a skid row. Ever seen the movie "District 9"? They kinda want that for America's homeless and immigrants

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Damn, Trump concept care doesn't even provide for name brand?

[–] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

Look, every city has a Skid Row, and L.A.'s is the largest, but Seattle actually owns that term because they were a logging town, and pioneer square was where loggers used skids to pull cut logs from the bay ("skid road").

[–] Fixbeat@lemmy.ml 74 points 1 day ago (3 children)

We’re still waiting on Trumps plan right? Probably too difficult for him to think about the needs of others.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We're waiting for even a concept of a plan.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

And he supposedly had concepts... plural. Really unfair of him to not even release a concept.

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 23 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

He’ll release it in two more weeks *[TM]

[–] FoolishObserver@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Right after his tax returns

[–] MrVilliam@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

And his evidence that Obama was born in Kenya.

[–] fluckx@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Look there's a concept of a plan alright!?

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)
[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

It’s the same “2 weeks” Elon has been using for “fULL sELf dRiviNg” since 2016.

[–] ryper@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He's going to have one of Elon's autonomous cars deliver it. Should arrive any year now.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

It'll be on the first Starship from Mars.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 43 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Using your own mother as a false political point is disgusting.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

At least he didn't claim Haitians ate his mom.

Haitians did eat his moms pussy though so I see how he got confused.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Doesn't even crack the top 100 of the disgusting shit Republican politicans have done.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who knew healthcare could be so complicated?

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 3 points 1 day ago

I swore he had a comprehensive plan in 2016. Where did that go?
