Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Who does this even appeal to? It feels like a circus with people just tuning in to watch the freaks. Like if Jerry Springer was hosted by the guests.

My neighbor eats this shit up. She's constantly saying "Candace Owens said...". What's worse is she thinks that because she likes Candace that she can't possibly be a racist. Despite how many times she says racist shit.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I think that's a large part of her appeal. She can be their black friend that's one of the good ones. Then they can actually believe that they aren't racist.

I don't think many black people are listening to her.

The funny part is I might skim someone like this to see what new idiotic conspiracy I can cut off before my family starts spewing it, but her promotion is so low I had no idea she had a YouTube.

The rep also said it is a "threat to hate speech when people can mass report a page and get someone banned–because they broke the rules. Today, the opponents of hate speech are targeting Candace, but anyone who spreads hate speech could be next."

Sounds about right to me.

Does anyone here remeber when, "free speech" and "Conservative speech" didn't mean hate speech, racism, lies, misinformation and Russian anti-American propaganda?

No, I can't remember a time where most of that wasn't fact.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago

I became politically aware - as in I could name more politicians than just the head of state for big countries - in my late teens. I'm now 41. Never remember such a time

Furthermore reading history doesn't help disabuse me of that notion either.

Well, you changed a couple words there. The idiocy of the statement is still in tact though.

I like how the meaning of this sentence changes with the gratuitous space.

I just translated it to non-shitheal.

It's likewhen Trump says, "If I can be prosecuted for paying hush money to a porn star that I fucked while my wife was at home caring for my newborn son then lying about it and falsifying business records to cover it up to interfere in an election then it can happen to anyone who pays hush money to a porn star that they fucked while their wife was at home caring for their newborn son then lying about it and falsifying business records to cover it up to interfere in an election."

I just can't see myself ever being in that position.

" […] In short, I can no longer make money on YouTube because I traffick [sic] in 'hate.'"

Yes. Accurate. You also can't spell or copy-edit worth a shit. Thought leader.

She is likewise a long-time defender of Kanye West, who famously appeared on Alex Jones' Infowars show in 2022 saying he "liked" Hitler, that "[Nazis] did good things, too" and "We've got to stop dissing the Nazis all the time."

He said he "love[d]" Hitler. Be accurate.

Oh, Candace, you thoughtless dolt. It's too bad your hateful bullshit can't be on the tubez anymore. Good thing Lonnie built video streaming into the shit site so you can broadcast there with your buddy Sucker Carl.

Candace just might be the dumbest member of the rogues' gallery of dumb right-wing chancers that pollute our culture. A genuine imbecile. Makes Dave Rubin seem 50% less cretinous just by being in the same room as him.

I can understand being locked into a worldview that doesn't make sense or is immoral, people are weird and easily led. However, if you think Candace Owens is smart and worth following, there's really no hope for you. You're basically a Tamagotchi with IBS.

This article is basically running cover for Candace and Kanye by not quoting what they said.

[–] modifier@lemmy.ca 20 points 2 months ago

Its the free market at work.

"YouTube does now allow content containing conspiratorial claims that individuals or groups are evil, corrupt, or malicious based on their protected group status."

Oh yes they absolutely do allow it. Satanism is a protected religion like any other, and YouTube is full of hate videos. Reporting them accomplishes nothing.
