To all people using Mull, the privacy hardened variant of Firefox for Android:

Mull 127 is out today!

The F-Droid version is very slow on updates. The cycles are about 1 per month or less.

DivestOS maintains Mull, and they have their own repo (above link).

Add their repo and get Mull from there.

If you already have it installed from F-Droid, you need to reinstall it, as the app comes from different developers so the Keys dont match.

If you are on GrapheneOS, Vanadium is the most secure browser and allows very well integrated process isolation.

Brave is similar but less secure, has better privacy features but also a ton of controversial stuff and (at least in the past) a really bad CEO.

Mull is likely most privacy hardened, interoperable with Firefox and has Addon support. But until there are other infos it has to be assumed as less secure.

Obtainium users

I use Obtainium.

For practicality I also have F-Droid Basic installed.

Add the repo in F-Droid basic, and search for Mull. If you are on the app page, use the "send" feature.

Your link will contain the exact name of the app.

In Obtainium, enter the URL of the repo at the top, then select "F-Droid 3rd party repo" as type and in "app id" enter the app name.

The problem is that I don't use an fdroid client whatsoever. I use Obtanium. So as far as my search has taken me, the fdroid link is the only one with APKs built that Obtanium can use.

Same here. I can add the explanation

[–] Hellmo_Luciferrari@lemm.ee 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Thank you! I didn't know that was an option with Obtanium, but sure appreciate you sharing!

Its a total pain. I use F-Droid Basic for the feed, adding repos, viewing the contents, and the said share feature.

Obtainium has a pretty cluttered UI but it is not a store yet the combo with F-Droid Basic (having manually disabled everything regarding updates) is the compromise.

I don't mind Obtainum's UI, but I apparently have missed features it has. I don't have F-Droid installed at all currently. I am sure there has got to be a way to find package names without having the F-Droid client installed.

I couldnt find one.

If you enter the repos address in a browser it just shows the generic "fdroid repo - qr code" page.

But for sure some way to go into the repo list has to be possible

It would be cool if there was a website, or an app that would act as just an F-Droid repo browser to show package details, and other pertinent information.

https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/

This one supports many and also newer ones, but for some reason not DivestOS main and a few others.

I'll just stick with F-droid main. They wait isn't a bad thing unless we are talking about a severe security vulnerability.

[–] boredsquirrel@slrpnk.net 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

DivestOS makes Mull, F-Droid waiting is just their inability to view into their processes. I dont think there is any form of review included, between upgrades.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I still am not going to add extra repos.

[–] boredsquirrel@slrpnk.net 0 points 5 months ago

You use code made by another project. They have their own repo.

[–] CCMan1701A@startrek.website 2 points 5 months ago

Thanks. Droid-ify has their repo in the list for repos to add so I just enabled it and reinstalled.
