"Merchan said Tuesday that he will rule on the contempt charges at a later time."

When? Punishment should have been imposed long ago.

Hopefully he's just biding his time and giving him enough rope to hang himself with.

So far Merchan has not seemed like a pushover in this trial and right now I trust he knows what he's doing.

I hope he's stacking the contempt charges just in case there's a successful appeal, then those charges will be sufficient to put his ass away for the rest of his life.

A man can dream

I have zero trust for "there will be consequences later." I've been seeing that over and over and over for years. If the judge says this is obviously contempt and chooses not to address that now, I am no longer capable of optimism.

I need that gif of Jon Oliver with the "We got him!" banner.

Judge Merchant to the Trump defense team: “I just want to make you aware… the People have presented 10 exhibits. You have presented nothing.”

A common refrain.

and attacking Merchan’s adult daughter on social media, claiming, without evidence, that she was a “rabid Trump hater.”

She don’t need evidence. Anyone who’s not a pithed fox news / talk radio / Qanut streamer dipshit is a rabid trump hater. Because he’s a demented rapist fraud who attempted a coup barely five minutes ago. Fucker would have been handled already in any other time and place. Christ.

Trump's lawyer responded, "Lost my whatsthatnow?"

He walked past seven rows of spectators, among them attorney George Conway, a vocal anti-Trumper now estranged from wife and former top Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, as well as reporters from every major media outlet, domestic and international.

That’s such a weird fucking relationship.

Thank you. So not used to dailybeast being an adblocker-bitching piece of shit.

With all this losing, when will there be “no credibility?” Can he take out a creditability loan from a bank? Can he sell some more junk stocks to launder more credibility?

[–] sudo42@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

So here's what the judge should do: Put Trump in jail for contempt for 1 hour.

Trump won't be able to resist exploding about how this is the worst thing, etc. He'll belly-ache for days about it.

The rest of the world will collectively roll its eyes. All the "oh, but we can't punish a president" people will clutch their pearls and whine about how we're all going to hell.

Lather, rinse and repeat this every future time Trump violates the gag order. Maybe bump it to 2 hours.

Eventually, people will figure out that putting Trump in prison won't bring the End Times. Trump will realize that he's completely run out whatever sympathy and attention his 3 remaining supporters can conjure. The justice system will eventually just forget to release him after his hour is up.

Y'all didn't hit a paywall? I wanted to read that article.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

If you search for the article headline on google, you'll find other versions of the same article on different news sites. For example, I found this version on yahoo.com.

Personally though, I use Firefox with uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, and Bypass Paywalls Clean add-ons and rarely get blocked by paywalls.

Edit: I just noticed that @Zerlyna has already posted a link to https://archive.ph/HTxA2 which is a non-paywalled copy of the article.

I use an ad-blocker and that seems to work on the Daily Beast
