The last couple of days I experienced something that I never felt since I've been using Fediverse services. For the first time since half a year ago, I felt like actually being sucked into the Fediverse. I only realized it a couple of days later that I hadn't looked into Twitter and that's the crucial point: didn't even felt like I was missing something or had even the urge to do so. I had actually forgot that I was in the Fediverse, I had felt home. But then suddenly I felt like: oh, what if I did miss something? I again opened TwitterX (didn't miss anything).

It was also not a purely positive experience, it also concerned me a bit for reasons I do not know yet.

Anyone else experienced this? Is there a word for it?

I definitely noticed that it's pretty seamlessly replaced Reddit for me at this point. It's been a decent source of stuff to read and there's enough of it now that I don't feel like I'm just seeing the same thing repeatedly.

I like reading articles and discussions, so it's nice to be able to have that without propping up some big toxic company.

I hardly use reddit at this point. I never used twitter. In fact, using the Fediverse got me curious and decided to check out Mastodon. Just been using it for a few days and trying out stuff and must say I am kind of enjoying it.

What do you enjoy about Mastodon?

I have started following hashtag, like books, reading, technology, cats, dogs, etc. I have also started following a few people that I have noticed share content that I am interested in. I am finding interesting content. Also, certain amount of engagement in the comments. So far, a good experience. It's only been a few days, however.

Adaptation.

Conformity.

Addiction.

Change of habits.

Those are a few suggestions off the top of my head.

I think you nailed it with "addiction".

I'd say "addiction".

You should probably get off the computer for a while and go outside.

Look who's talking! 🤣

You should too before you experience the following symptoms...

  • loss of vision
  • hairy palms
  • extreme assymetry of the arms

🤣

Do you add 🤣 like a laugh track? You know what was said was unfunny, but maybe the emoticon will encourage people to laugh?

What's the word for realizing to have been sucked into the Fediverse and actually forgotten that you are using the Fediverse? Fedi-Immersion-Shock?

FedHead.

I have to find the same thing with linux. You'll be sitting there going "I don't know if I'd be able to use Linux daily" just to realize you're on your Linux PC right now.
