I'm using this extension called New Tab Override and just saw that the dev complained a few years back about how it wasn't possible to highlight the url of a newly opened tab and there hasn't : firefox

That's pretty much the reason I'm not using extensions that change the new tab. This annoyance wasn't worth it IMO.

The users using usernames instead of hashtags are confusing to me anyway. Like the rest of the time are they just tagging random users in all their posts?

They're probably trying to mention @Firefox@mozilla.social but there's no such account on that server.

On my server, if I type "@Firefox" it pops up this community as a suggestion

Lemmy communities show up as people on Mastodon, that's why. The hashtags won't reach Lemmy.

@jqubed also, I found another bug with a title that explains the issue way better: "With a custom new-tab URL, opening a new tab focuses the address bar but does not select the text"
