To add one I haven't seen: Jane Smiley. I really enjoyed The Greenlanders, A Thousand Acres and Horse Heaven.

Daniel Suarez "Daemon" series was fantastic!

His later stuff hasn't lived up to it, although his asteroid mining series is pretty cool.
