8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners.
The auto mod will contact you if a link shortener is detected, please delete your post if they are right.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Maybe that third that didn't go to vote has something to do with not presenting someone that made them vote. Someone that represented them, not the wealthy.
Are you happy with the result of that choice?
No. But that doesn't mean the Dems didn't fucked it up with Harris... and the rest of things that gave Trump the White House twice.
Trump is only the current chapter of the descent to hell that started with Nixon. If every Dem POTUS had done his job Trump would be only a TV star.
While I get what you’re saying, fascism is not an improvement over neoliberalism.
They can think that when the opposing option wasn't literal fascism. They're dumb as fuck when it was.
But it always is fascism. Because the center always goes to the right when the big party starts saying "it's us or chaos". Because people start to think "if this isn't chaos maybe we should try with chaos" or worse: "if those are the options I'm not playing that game anymore".
The only way to not lean right is by doing real leftist policies, the ones that make people's life better. And the Dems haven't done so in decades. Only some crumbs to have social peace but nothing that can be seen as a game change in politics. And I'm not talking about turning the US into a communist country. I'm talking about, maybe, have public housing for those that can't afford a better place. Having public markets with only first need food (bread, milk, eggs, ...) with affordable prices. Having a good public railroad system, payed by the companies that use it, and high speed trains to relay less in flights and cars. Having a public health system where you don't have to pay cash to be cured. After all, everyone gets sick sometime.
But, it's fake news though, right? Right?

Trump said he'd do much worse, and here we are. Happy yet, sit-outs and ballot spoilers? Ready to take your elections seriously?
Do you really think the media is doing a good job of getting accurate and fair information to voters in an impartial way? Could we improve our electoral system to make it easier and more convenient for working people to vote?
So maybe instead of blaming people as individuals for failing to meet a systemic and worsening series of problems we should expect that our political leaders have some sort of plan for restoring democracy in a way that combats republican corruption.

Trump and Harris had record turnout in 2024. People voting for Trump against Harris in 2024 had a bigger effect than apathy for Clinton in 2016.
Characterizing it this way does not give people a realistic impression of what happened in 2024.
Of voting eligible population the % voting went up from 2016 to 2020 and down from 2020 to 2024. You absolutely can connect voter turnout to this problem as well as increasing barriers to voting.
I don't even know if it requires research to belive that he means the bad things he says. Safe rule of thumb I've found for Republicans is assume they are lying about anything positive and telling the truth about the bad things they want to do.
As long as he's not raising taxes on our rulers, our fellow countrymen are glad to have him over a progressive.

The crazy thing about the whole SNAP expiration thing is that that’s the “bread” of “bread and circus”. Circus is football. If he or someone in the admin would have made a specific point of making sure food benefits stayed in place, a lot more people would still be content to “stay out of politics” and march along like copacetic lemmings right off the fucking fascism cliff. So, in a dark sort of way… I think this might actually be good in the long run, though it will hurt (and perhaps kill) a LOT of people in the short term.
At the same time, who fucking knows. This is uncharted territory. Last time around, the fascists didn’t have a nuclear arsenal numbering in the thousands, nor did they formerly serve as one of the primary geopolitical lynchpins of democratic order.
It is hurting a lot of people NOW and they haven't even gotten a good start.
