This is what will give trump another term

Exactly this right here - the perfect is the enemy of the good

[–] etherphon@midwest.social 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

People lost their minds, there is not going to be a perfect candidate, this is not a perfect world, shit is fucked up all over the place the best you can do it make it slightly less fucked up. You can't fix everything at once and sorry the two party system is here to stay for a while it seems so suck it up and be the change you want.

Also so crazy that this vote basically hinged on a holy war that's been going on thousands of years. They have to work it out. I'm going to vote in the interest of the people who live in the country, at present, who are hurting.

It's like people who didn't take the time to educate themselves about how things work were shovel fed a quick fix solution by the algorithms and this is the result. Like microwaving the phone to dry it out. It has a concept that seems like it might work, but nobody who knows how microwaves and phones work would ever try that.

Yep kind of a symptom of a world where everything is available with a button click. Sorry to say but yes, people are slow to accept change. On the trans issue for example, gay rights took a loooong time, mainstream acceptance was slow and unfortunately you can't just lump trans rights in there with it because there's a lot of unique issues that come with it that people have to accept, it will take some time, people will get there, I know it sucks.

The Gaza issue is so far away from gay rights. It’s not in our community; it’s not tangible to the average person. The problem is the people who are passionate about Palestine have JUST found out about the war. Through propaganda designed to to divide Americans. They are shocked to find some of us have been following the conflict for 30+ years. Amazed when one says both sides are empirically bad. Anyone who takes a side in the conflict has been made a fool. Let the religious zealots kill each other in peace. That’s what they wanna do. It has nothing to do with America.

[–] TronBronson@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Gay rights is a good example. The media played a HUGE role in changing our societies views on the topic and now they are working in the other direction. It takes all types, but the biggest advancement in my time was probably media inclusion and grass roots political movements to legalize gay marriage at a state level. Not enough state level popular reform in the trump era

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yep. 100%. And it seems the algorithms push this kind of thinking everywhere. Used to be this lazy "both sides" take was just a thing you usually heard kind of on the margins, and mostly in-person, usually from someone that was either a Libertarian, a Communist, or just someone incredibly tuned out of everything, but wants to sound really profound. 🙄

Now it's just all over the place. It's a great way to atomize much of the left and demoralize just enough people so that they don't turn out for Democrats.

And remember - no matter how much these types might actually believe their schtick (and aren't just paid actors or bots) and stamp their feet, there are exactly TWO viable options at the ballot box when it comes down to the general.

Talking about woulda coulda shoulda and being a precious purity pony is just a circle jerk, and nothing else.

Eh, more like the good is the enemy of the lesser and greater evils which is why we can't have good candidates.

[–] 3abas@lemmy.world -2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You have no principals, if you did, you'd oppose those directly in opposition of your principals.

Instead you call evil imperfect because it doesn't harm you and yours. You're part of the problem, you're why the Democrats feel comfortable running a campaign to the right of GWB's, 20 more years and you'd be voting for everything Trump is doing today and calling it imperfect.

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What a weird response. Just straight up looney tunes

[–] 3abas@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What's looney tunes about having principals and not supporting those who oppose them?

Do you have something to actually say in response, or are you simply satisfied with calling it crazy?

Do you disagree that Kamala Harris was further to the right of GWB on trade? On asylum and border crosses? On energy? Calling as a "left candidate" for the "most lethal military" to big applause?

Do you disagree that the Democrats are further right than 20 years ago? The shift to bootlicking and police worshiping? Do you not see what they actually fund and vote for in between using minorites in rhetoric about human rights and equality? Did you miss how they completely moved on from roe v wade?

If you have leftist principals, you don't support candidates who directly oppose them, just because the other candidate opposes them more. Prop up your own candidate who supports your principals even if they have no chance at winning, because it's crucial to keep your principals in the conversation. Once they're out of the conversation, good luck getting the masses thinking about them again.

This is too emotional - blue no matter who we’ve got to fix this shit looney tunes. Voting Blue is the start

If someone wanted to split the Blue vote their comments would read exactly as yours

[–] beella@lemmings.world -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I mean, you're the moron who thinks that a candidate who supports the working class is 'perfect.'

[–] lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Hahaha just unhinged - it’s like you’re not even on this planet. How super weird you must be
