I'm housesitting for my Mom this week, and it's a real novelty to see advertising. It's honestly more entertaining than most of the TV shows. Outside of her house, I haven't seen an ad in years.

Watching the news with my parents and seeing ICE ads on broadcast TV was an eye opener

ICE ads on broadcast....

God has grown tired of us...

I report them on LinkedIn for what is the category, extremist or violent content or some such. I don't think I've seen a response but at least the ad disappears for a while.

It's so weird going to someone else's house and seeing ads. These people don't even notice that a third of the slop they're exposing themselves to is just ads, and not even good, convincing or well-made ones. Ever been to someone's house and they always have the TV on at low volume, ads and all? They can't even be alone with their thoughts in their own house when other people are around to talk to.

Yeah, I've been to my parents' house cringe

and not even good, convincing or well-made ones.

I could rant about this for longer than I have the time for. If you're going to make me watch your fucking bullshit, at least make it good. So many ads makes me not want to buy the thing. I get it: it's not easy coming up with material in a soul-crushing industry. But maybe just don't air anything at all.

Right? I've worken in marketing (with a Bill Hicks attitude towards it), and better ads just sell more product. Bad ads are just lazy, and people tune them out. People don't read ads. They read things they're interested in, and sometimes they're ads.
