I've been wondering if Google fucked something with Gboard recently. The autocorrections have been abysmal. Like 'dust' becoming 'dustDust'.
I wouldn't be surprised if they've intentionally regressed it to pave the way for some "AI-enhanced" bullshit that's just the original stuff.
Or they are already doing the AI bullshit, which is why it sucks more than usual.
My brother in Christ, autocorrect & glide typing was AI-driven before all the genAI/LLM hype.
"Machine learning" or "heuristics"-driven maybe. But they've got to milk their new garbage marketing terms by releasing the same old stuff under a new name unoe.
Tbh more chances they just started vibecoding and broke some legacy shit nobody knew how it functions and why it's there.
It has been autocorrecting valid words into other random words lately. It is incredibly frustrating. I know what I typed. Stop trying to change it.
It's been bad for me ever since they wanted to "use" more of my data including relating to keyboard (like the fucking don't already) and if you "rejected" then it wouldn't use your history LOL.
Auto-complete keyboard suggestions pretend to no longer even know my name when I sign emails or complete some web forms...
I went to Gboard and cleared my cache/data (was like 1.4gb or some shit.). Curious to see how much different it is.
Futo keyboard does it too, I think its an issue in android itself as a result, either that or they've similar implementations
It's been doing it more and more for me on Futo as well as time has gone on, but I keep the app disconnected from the internet (GrapheneOS setting) so it shouldn't be impacted by anything other than training.
It was happening even when I went a while without updating it.
Something makes me think it might be a little self-reinforcing. You get a bad suggestion, you don't instantly correct it (e.g you press space and then go back to correct it), the app originally assumes you wanted the faulty change, doesn't backtrack after since you already pressed space)
Maybe I should just turn down the effect or just disable training entirely and see if that changes anything.
