You might not even like rsync. Yeah it's old. Yeah it's slow. But if you're working with Linux you're going to need to know it.

For baclup purposes I would recommend Borg backup for the tech savvy or Duplicati for the basic user, as they are vastly superior (keeping multiple copies of your files, smart retention, deduplication). Backup gets smaller than source more often than not, even if you have a year's worth of historical versions. That said, rsync is great for what it is.
