I have a rule now that if I see fruit sitting on the table and I think about it for a second I have to eat it.

This is actually surprisingly effective with chores in general for me. If i see it i have to do something.

I was doing that but now I have 2 young kids and a house that needs renovation.

It's just impossible to do everything, there is tons of stuff I see everyday that needs to be done but I have to accept that it's not possible to do everything.

I think I have selective blindness involving chores. I genuinely won't notice something until it NEEDS to be done.

When I lived alone I was great about cleaning up any messes made in memory, but dust bunnies had eternal lifespans.

I have a similar one, if I'm hungry enough to walk into the kitchen, I'm hungry enough to eat some fruit. About 1/2 of the time I even do it. If I know there aren't pastries in a cupboard.
