lol that’s just not true these days that it’s rude to be on your phone in a restaurant. I’ve seen entire families on ‘em in relatively swank joints, and ain’t no one saying a damn thing.

Just because everyone is doing it doesn't mean it's not rude. Put your digital crack down for an hour or go to rehab.

That's one of the things I love about Tool/APC/Lucifer concerts. If you have your phone out, you'll get kicked the fuck out.

I've been to a few concerts where they put phones in little bags that you can unlock when you go outside, so there's 0 phones. It's pretty cool

What happens if a phone starts ringing? What about emergency alerts that blare until they've been acknowledged?

[–] frank@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

They tell you to put it to airplane mode first, and it's Denmark so the vast majority of people follow a rule like that.

I guess you go downstairs and get it unlocked if it's really bothering you, then come back. I have a feeling that things like "everyone doesn't respect the rule and the amber alert is annoying now" are very low likelihood here.

🎶 They tried to make me go to rehab

🎶 But I said huh? Sorry, I wasn't paying attention.

I always though that was about talking on the phone or using it while ordering.

But I do feel it is rude to be on your phone while at a restaurant with other people.

It’s up to you to use your best judgement. There are many places where it definitely wouldn’t fly (a wedding for example), and it’s up you to read the room.

That said, most casual places usually don’t mind, and when with friends you probably shouldn’t, unless they’re chill. Common sense prevails above all else.

Don't people take lots of photos at weddings on their phones?

[–] don@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I guess, but isn’t it considered inappropriate to be texting or browsing during the ceremony?

During the wedding ceremony, I agree it would be rude to be texting (unless it's an emergency and I would step outside). But the wedding reception seems more casual and I wouldn't feel bad glancing at my phone every now and then. It would be rude to be on your phone during the whole reception though. It makes it look like you're not having fun there.
