Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in unrelated arguments.

Brigading — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from voting, commenting or manipulating the post in any way, this includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be permanently banned.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Got a 7 day ban on !memes@lemmy.ml after responding to this very abusive commenter with this image:

I reported their abusive comments somewhat expecting to get banned as well. It came as a shock to me when i saw my ban but this commenter got off scot-free. They didn't even so much as get a single abusive comment removed.

This is the most blatant instance of a double standard I've encountered on that instance.

Alright, alright. I'm the clown in this situation. I had a little bit of faith that i could reach some common ground with them, but I don't think it's possible

They're probably a troll farm operation tbh

Hehehe, nooo. No, it is not. The ideology they adhere to attracts and ensures narrow-mindedness to survive. There is no pondering, experimenting of thought, consideration of others or other things. The dragon they chase is the happiness of all so long as everyone follows the ideology they do. Ironically, chastising those that don't for being weak and narrow-minded. They're not even sheeple, they're following a shepherd that doesn't even exist.

There are many ideologys like this around the world. Their values and ides can be vastly different, but that doesn't matter. They attract the same people. What happens next is whatever ideology ensnared them first and that's their life now, all others be damned.

You'll never reach common ground with the kind of individual that bares these traits. So...

Why did you want to find common ground? What's the goal here?

Idk. I wanted to retain some faith in humanity; especially considering the point we were arguing on was pretty benign, so we could've easily reached an agreement on something.

It gives me a feeling of nihilism whenever some people are so adamant in their beliefs to not even entertain opposing views. It makes it seem all pointless.
