Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

When I talk to Americans and say that the only place I'd like to go back to is Portland they're always like ITS A SHITHOLE, IT IS A WARZONE! ITS HOMELESS PEOPLE AT WAR WITH THE POLICE. It is a very weird alternate reality they live in built by their state propaganda news that doesn't make it to where I live and its so very strange. They can literally just go there and see it isn't true but never leave their shitty small towns.

Same with Seattle and a lot of other "woke" cities. I've had random people tell me how [city] is a lawless, burning wasteland because the commie Democrat fascists defunded the police (they actually increased the pig budget) and their relative who lives near [city] fears for their life every day. Then I tell them I'm regularly in the city and walk around alone at night and they just call me a liar, lmao. Their brains are so fucking cooked.

We need to pull a reverse Mao. Rural people must be brought in to see life in the cities

It's amazing to me how people from small towns are convinced that city life must be absolutely terrible. Having lived in both, I would take the city every time (and these are shitty American cities).

My dad unironically believes this. Thinks the police in our city are defunded and the "commies" in charge won't let them do their jobs. Yet the police budget is higher than ever and I see cop cars LITERALLY EVERYWHERE.

I visited Minnesota a year ago or so and had multiple residents tell me they still wouldn't even drive through Minneapolis after 2020, insinuating that the city had been taken over by racialized gangs. Sometimes they seemed to imply that large swaths of the city had burned down, instead of a police station and a handful of Arbys and Wells Fargos.

Same thing with the la protests, people were talking like the whole county was on fire when it was like two blocks downtown
