I absolutely loathe No Scrubs by TLC.

spoilerThe lyrics are trashy and only convey judgement. Taken from the song: if you don't own your own car, own home, or don't dress like a prince, you're not worth it. The whole song is shitty IMHO (except for the beat/sound). The one line about not treating your partner right is sensible but the rest of the song doesn't match with any of that vibe. They're just conveying judgement. I already know I'm a loser in most people's eyes but hearing this song on the radio just miffs me.

I don't really care for the song myself, but I think you are not taking into account the world that was released into.
Women weren't a dominant force in hip hop, or pop, at that time, most of the mainstream popular stuff was bragging and violence. I think this song was an attempt to fit into that genre, while at the same time take a shot at the gigolo life style that was frequently on display in so much media of the time. A stub wasn't someone who didn't have anything, they were someone who never even tried to be someone. They were the type that tried to impress you with the car they were in... a car that wasn't even theirs...
