I can't say this enough but John Oliver is straight up controlled opposition. Every show (haven't watched since sometime before COVID but I can almost guarantee his schtick is the same) is him going over one of capitalism's many failings/success stories (depending on where you fall in the class structure) and redirecting any potential thoughts about addressing the systemic issues into blaming one guy/family/org. They're the problem, not the system that allows them to perpetuate the abuse and exploitation.

He's literally married to a Republican veteran who was working for Pete Hegseth when they met. Dude has mentioned how he can't win any arguments with her since she just uses the "I'm a troop, you're just a comedian" card on him lmao

Maybe, but he's still willing to cede the moral high ground to a Republican activist who participated in the invasion of Iraq. Like I said before, he's never against capitalism or the american imperial project itself, he just wants it to have better optics.
