My anti-violence mother let me have all the guns I wanted when I was a kid. Space guns, spy guns, soldier guns, whatever I wanted. By the time I was in 6th Grade I was over guns and never wanted to get a real one.
Just saying...
Yeah same here. There’s something else going on here. It’s not toys and video games. We had GI Joe, every action figure had a gun or rifle. We had fake guns in the toy aisles. They looked real af. That was totally normal.
I hate to say, but the one thing we didn’t have… was the internet 😕
Wealth disparity was better by like a factor of 10 back then.
Are we saying wealth disparity is a factor in these shootings?
Yes. More wealth means happier family units that spend more time together. Obviously it’s not 100%, but the statistical trend is there.
I was the same way. I had all kinds of guns and my sisters boyfriend at the time showed me his real gun and was like: when you're 18, i van help you get one and go shooting and stuff. I was like no thanks and never wrnt back to even think about it.
oh yeah, my parents absolutely would not have firearms in the house. not safe, and they knew the statistics to back it up. also, dad was rated expert in marksmanship in the 1911 and the m16 during his time in the army and he made sure all us kids could out-shoot him. so like, there was a bit of a dichotomy there.
Same here, and add super soakers, airsoft, and paintball. Sure we did shoot at each other with those (because that's literally how those games are played), but it's different.
Now, I do happen to like real guns, but there's also a difference between a Tipman 98 custom and a Glock 19x lmao, and neither are allowed at the appropriate place for the other. Just liking toy guns/paintball or even real ones doesn't mean you're going to be irresponsible or malicious with either.
