I mean, there's a long history in espionage of men dressing as women to appear more innocuous, before women spies were a common and accepted way to do the same thing, so it could totally work and be not too ridiculous.
Personally, if we're writing gender expression and identity as an espionage tool, I want to see some genderfluid representation. The way our shifts are great for "they're looking for a girl, and walk right past a man with the right facial features and hair colour" (yes, anyone can do that, but we tend to be really good at doing it with far lower stakes, so...), and also fighting the uncontrollable nature of those shifts to present as the correct gender to pull off the assignment.
Playing with what gender is is just such a good context to include us in a way that actually shows some of our daily struggles, without being offensive or overly pathologising, so.
Uncritical support for deconstructing gender
Yep. I'm down for that. Gender no longer having any relevance in how society treats anyone, and gendered clothing and other appearance related stuff losing gender connotations, would definitely be a net positive for how my specific fluidity works. Shifting at the wrong time wouldn't matter if I'm going to wear the same thing and be treated the same way by other people regardless of what gender I'm perceived as.
