they market it as secure email. what does that even mean? they say it's encrypted, but most people don't receive encrypted emails. they don't put in the effort to educate their users about how email encryption works. further, they don't use standard email servers, and require you to use their own clients. it always seemed like a honeypot, and i've seen enough news of them doing nefarious shit to confirm my distrust.

All valid points as far as I can tell. What provider do you use?

I have accounts with riseup, disroot, autistici, deltachat, and google.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh wow. You use all those actively?

[–] commie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I use k9 mail client and deltachat on my phone, and Thunderbird on my desktop. it's just a matter of adding the account to my client.

Right. Why so many though? I'm trying to keep my accounts to a minimum. 😅

Also is there a difference between k9 and Thunderbird on mobile? I thought Thunderbird was just k9 with a skin or something. Forked from it, maybe?

Thunderbird team took over k9. Idk what tbird is like on mobile.

Idk what tbird is like on mobile.

Identical to k9, I would say. I had both installed, couldn't tell a difference other than branding. Everything else literally the same app.
