We need an archive link to this from this guy OR someone else verifying that this is true. I tried to find it, but couldn't. I'll give everyone a half an hour.

Edit: Thanks for everyone doing so much research. The crazy thing is, when you go to @DavidShuster, the comment doesn't show up at all and it looks the account hasn't been active for a year or so. But then RedJard linked and archived the original. LillyPip confirmed that it is his account.

I now spent close to an hour trying to figure out Robinson's political leanings, and as of right now the internet simply does not know.

This is the closest:

A public records database shows Robinson’s family resides in Washington, Utah, where Trump garnered support from 75% of voters in the 2024 presidential election. Robinson’s parents have Republican listed as their party affiliation, said public voter registration information, and they are considered active voters (each cast ballots in the 2024 election that gave Trump a second presidency).

Public records also indicated Robinson registered as a voter in Utah in July 2021 but was considered inactive and did not declare an affiliation to any party when he registered.

And then there's a lot of talk about bullet engravings which leave me very confused. How can you engrave "If you're reading this you're gay" - 26 characters onto a single bullet? Even so, the messaging is open to interpretation. We simply do not know yet, and we might never know 100%! He's conflicted, that much seems clear.

IMHO most timely and objective article as of right now: LA Times

edit: I wrote this 24h ago. Surely the situation has changed by now. See you in a more timely thread!

30.06 is a large bullet and the words were allegedly written on the cases of the bullets, not the rounds themselves. Good to be skeptical but a fine point Sharpie could get 26 characters on there if you had small handwriting or did multiple lines or whatever.

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Yup. And you could probably engrave it with a nail, so the barrier here is pretty low, but it would probably take an hour or so to engrave a simple message because it's kinda hard.

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah, but think of all the Internet points he probably got showing off the rounds beforehand?

[–] source_of_truth@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

If you’re reading this you’re gay

If you’re reading this you’re gay, LMAO...

Wouldn't the bullet that called Kirk a fascist be an indicator of a possible left position held by the shooter?

[–] drhodl@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Magats like to throw insults, but very often it is evident that they do not understand what the words they use, actually mean. "Fascist", "Communist", "Socialist" are all examples of "insults" I've been called by obvious magats. I don't think they understand what TDS is either, even though they all have terminal cases of it. In general, I don't think magats understand much of anything at all.

[–] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My understanding is that it's a Helldivers 2 reference, so not necessarily.

[–] Gloomy@mander.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

True, but i still don't see how it can't be a game reference and a label applied to Kirk. I don't see how somebody, who is right wing themselves, would use this. But it makes perfect sense if the shooter was left.

[–] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Groypers and always online fascists co-opt left language and I see them call other nazis fascists derisively. I will bet you ten thousand dollars there will be no sign the shooter was leftist in any way.

[–] MML@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

He recycled one time!

Super Earth calls the bugs fascist in game in spite of being fascist.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I mean, anybody can throw the word "fascism" out there and a wide variety of people purport to hate fascism so shrugs maybe but probably not.

[–] Schadrach@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah, but quoting an antifascist song and writing "hey fascist, catch" on your bullets is one of those things that feels suggestive of the rarer lefty shooter. There was also something initially reported as pro-trans symbolism, but it didn't sound like a trans symbol I'd seen before.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It’s a groyper thing, which also a traditionally rightist thing. Steal leftist terminology and reuse it to troll leftists and confuse everyone else.

I shall take socialism away from the Socialists.

Adolf Hitler, leader of the “National Socialist Party”

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

suggestive being the alarmingly prevalent word here...

We aren't playing Clue here, all this extremely extrapolative speculation has consequences that point toward accelerating violence and isn't good for anyone in the end.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Even so, the messaging is open to interpretation.

Really?

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't know what the commenter meant, but my guess would be that they meant the statement could've been a lighthearted joke or homophobic and it isn't clear which.

[–] baines@lemmy.cafe 7 points 3 days ago

it’s 4chan drivel, i called it from the text alone even before the Nick Fuentes angel

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"IfURReadngthisURG"

It's tighter but gets the same message across

[–] pemptago@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 days ago

"URG? Must be trans ideology..."

- the FBI, probably

[–] Asidonhopo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I heard this was another person with the same name.

[–] Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 116 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I assume you mean proof as to the claims.
But just in case if you mean the tweet being made and made by that account, it is still up and I made an archived version of it.

The account claims to be

journalist [...] TYT.com Rebel HQ. Previously anchored for MSNBC + AJAM

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 83 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm going to leave this up and let you all decide if this is true or not. He hasn't been confirmed as this journalist, but x is a POS organization, so everyone gets to decide for themselves.

[–] ballgoat@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I trust David Shuster as a journalist, but I personally really would prefer more evidence.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It's not checkmarked as officially him though. It's not that I'm doubting the journalist, we don't know if this is him.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

This article from 2010 quotes and links to that same Twitter account as being his, so it looks real as far as I can tell. Other articles and references I’ve found more recently also link to that same account. It looks legit.

Remember, the blue check no longer means ‘verified’ – now it only means ‘paid for premium’ (since Musk took over, he changed it such that you just have to pay monthly for the blue check, not be the verified person), so I wouldn’t put stock in that blue check now.

e: it’s at the bottom, here’s the quote:

Meanwhile Shuster hasn’t made a peep on Twitter since MSNBC called his direct tweets to O’Keefe “inappropriate.” It will be one week tomorrow morning – we’ve reached out to MSNBC to see if there has been any suspension. Either way, he can communicate through Red Eye‘s in-box…

[–] ballgoat@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

Ohhhh gotcha. I was just adding my two cents, but now I understand what you’re saying. I’ll contact him about this.
