Last week was the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2, and on such an occasion, China put on quite an impressive military parade, especially in comparison to the rather drab and corporate parade that the USA recently had. In attendance were many world leaders, including Putin, Kim Jong Un, and a very happy-looking Lukashenko.
This took place shortly after the SCO summit in Tianjin, in which Modi was notably in attendance. That one of the world's most powerful fascists was in attendance in China near the anniversary of the World Antifascist War is obviously pretty ironic. Regardless, the mood was still relatively positive; for example, Xi announced the acceleration of the creation of the SCO development bank, and Indian-Chinese relations are once again in the thaw cycle of their long-term cyclical pattern, with direct flights resumed and links expanded. The fact that there is this much projected optimism from China about a Global South which is being increasingly tariffed, infiltrated, starved, looted, bombed, invaded, and massacred in the hundreds of thousands by rabid imperialist dogs is perhaps a little tone-deaf, but buoying up the SCO is better than doing nothing at all, I suppose.
Any astute Geopolitics Understander can tell you that this is certainly not India joining the side of the Global South, but instead a move somewhat forced upon them as they seek to balance both sides for their own gain. As Trump amps up pressure on India via tariffs, it is natural that India would seek leverage, and there is much that India gains: industrial development, increased intra-regional trade, and scientific knowledge from a China which has, in numerous fields, now pulled ahead of the USA. India is also facing numerous internal crises, ranging from run-of-the-mill capitalist incompetence and corruption, to worsening conditions for farmers, to the ravaging impacts of climate change, and increasing their links with China is a way to vent off a little of that pressure and protect Modi's regime.

He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

It's not that Iran has much of a choice if it wants to re arm and buy military equipment from China (which their president has hinted at). For this to happen, Iran needs to avoid snapback. China is not going to sell military equipment to a state under UN sanctions (which snapback would re impose). It was said sanctions that delayed the sale of S-300P air defence systems to Iran until the JCPOA nuclear deal was signed.
Otherwise the prospect is re arming with domestic technology (which in air defence consists of analogues of older Russian and Chinese systems, with the older Chinese systems themselves analogues of Russian systems, along with US HAWK systems from half a century ago) while under strict sanctions. Not a promising proposition.
Iran needs time, and if this deal delays the inevitable 2nd round of a war vs Israel, then it would be an act of negligence towards their own people if they don't take it. A 2nd round will happen, it's unavoidable, but Iran needs to rearm and rework their AD coverage. Cutting a deal with the devils is one of the worst options possible, but a worse option would be going into an existential war again without preparation.
To me this sounds like something from Beijing. Iran had discussions with China in terms of buying military equipment during the victory parade. China said that they can't sell anything to Iran if they're under UN sanctions, and that they need to come to some sort of agreement with the IAEA to convince the Europeans not to implement said sanctions under snapback. Once that is done, Iran can buy some of the fancy things being paraded. So now Iran is trying to patch things up with the IAEA. Not sure if this will work, the Europeans might just implement snapback anyways or pressure Iran further into more restrictive deals, but I'm also not sure if Iran has any better options. The only detail Iran have about the agreement with the IAEA was that it would be null and void if UN sanctions are implemented under snapback. In other words, spelling out the whole purpose of this deal. But the timeline to figure this out is very tight, only until the end of September.
Number one priority should be getting nukes ASAP, especially with the gaze of Sauron turning towards them. How is that going to happen if they work with the agency that turned them in and caused the security disaster that cost them a bunch of their top scientists and generals? Or that will scream the second they start enriching things more? This still seems like a mistake to me.

and why do they need to re-arm, if their targeting is so shit? 10000s rockets won't help you, if you don't even plan to hit fucking giant intel fabs/desalination plants/ports, and would rather strike "les military targets" who will get a one hour warning
