As of 2023 among 18-34 year olds this bourgeois institute finds:
29% of 18-34s in the UK support Communism
53% of 18-34s in the UK support Socialism
39% of 18-34s asked to define Socialism define it correctly
57% of 18-34s define socialism as the government providing more services

The figure for the number of people that correctly define socialism in this country is higher than you think. I don't think these figures are something to doom about it, they're very good actually.
Definitely nothing to doom about. Dooming like that is silly online-left junk anyway.
And even if hypothetically it was only 5% having a reasonable definition, the simple fact that 53% identify support for socialism and nearly a third identify with communism is useful and far better than one might have assumed. I went out drinking last month with random young adult strangers from a public event and of a group of 5, four of us revealed we were socialists. Wasn't even in a particularly progressive area.
It's extremely positive for our future. This is the reason we've seen things like anti-capitalist text get banned in schools. They KNOW that socialism is wildly popular among the next generations and it scares them. They're willing to take the country into a black period of reaction in order to crack down on it. The turn we're seeing towards support for farage and the far right in the media is in my opinion a pre-emptive strike driven by their fears socialists are gaining popular support. Their fears aren't mistaken if the numbers are accurate too.
