News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

MODERATORS

I’m so confused by how Reddit is being moderated now. I had someone follow me to various subreddits, responding to every comment I made with a particular anti trans slur, (the one that rhymes with “moon”, not sure if I’m allowed to say it here) and a demand that I join the “41 percent” (which basically means “kill yourself.”) I reported their account, just once, and it was the first time I’d ever reported anyone. A few hours later, I was permanently banned for “abusing the report button”. I tried making another account and was instantly banned. The accounts of other people in my household have also been permanently banned, which is the most confusing part of all of it.

The account that was harassing me is still up as far as I’m aware. So, apparently it’s fine to call people slurs and tell them to die, but they’re not allowed to complain about it.

So, I’m new to this place. I was told it was better.

Unfortunately transphobia and homophobia persist here too. Maybe less visibly than reddit at least.

The differense in the Fediverse is that absolutely no instance admin here needs to show "user number up" to some owner. On the contrary, it costs actual money to run the instances so there's an actual incentive to just throw out bad actors as soon as they're identified.

Unfortunately bigotry is profitable.

And even when it's otherwise, people can defederate those instances. Yes, the internet became a worse place every time antisocial people got a less restricted outlet (starting with Something Awful and 4chan, now they have basically all of mainstream social media + private Discords/Matrices/Telegrams for those who want to organize in secret), yes networked harrasment organized on those made the "don't feed the trolls" an irrelevant advice if not used by said trolls themselves (seen gamergate people using the term to mean "do as we want you to"), but the old internet was a better part.

the hateful ignorant idiots on this site haven't organized yet.

as well as other bigotries, jesus the misogyny i see in conversations here

tho, usually the moderators and admins (at least here on LBZ) are good and take action on reports

Lots of Reddit transplants.

You get the bad with the good, unfortunately. We're not a corporate shit pile, but we're still The Internet.
