Holy fuck I almost had a heart attack. Why would anyone ever pay that much for non-specialized (i.e. winter jackets) clothing?

Arguably, you could wear jeans regularly for a decade plus, assuming you don't change size. I have carhartt jeans that are about 20 years old, and still going strong. I would wear them more often if they were quite that heavy.

A specialized winter coat often cost significantly more per wear.
