A video recorded last week has ignited outrage online after it captured ICE agents violently arresting two brothers in South Norwalk, Connecticut, in broad daylight without producing a warrant. The men, identified as Ricardo Chavez and his brother, reportedly hold legal status to live and work in the United States.

The footage (credit @alwaysfilmthepolice) shows plainclothes ICE agents forcibly detaining the men in a public area. Witnesses say the agents refused to provide identification or present a warrant when asked, instead resorting to physical force and a taser to subdue the brothers before hauling them away. They also allegedly damaged their vehicle.

Community members who know the Chavez family insist that both men are law-abiding residents with valid documentation. “They work, they pay taxes, and they belong here,” said one South Norwalk resident who witnessed the arrest. “This was nothing short of a kidnapping.”

Well Harris wasn’t progressive enough for me so this is okay so we can show the democrats we’re sick of them.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 14 points 1 week ago

Yeah but she supports genocide or something.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

If 4 years of bullshit leads to a stronger opposition party that can learn from this and make sure it never happens again, great. That's admittedly a big bet against heavy odds but one can hope.

People forget this is the second time trump has been president. The Democrats had 4 years to prepare to prevent what we're currently living with. And they came up with a plan, they chose a doddering senile old man as their candidate then when it became obvious that he was a doddering senile old man they replaced him midstream with his deeply flawed and uncharismatic VP. And she lost, wow, I'm shocked.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world -3 points 1 week ago (3 children)

So you’re not worried about the people who will die because Trump is in power?

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There's very little I can do about it now. If i.could go back and change it I would. I can't, so I'm hoping the DNC learns from this. I'm not holding my breath. I'm 90% convinced they're controlled opposition and have been actively working towards this.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol -5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't get why they try and weasel around it. Just own it, tankies.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We aren't the ones who could have simple not funded ICE.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

And so, you're fine with what's happening under Trump. Yes, we get it.

Just own that, and stop weasling.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Would you point to anything I have said that suggests I'm fine with what's happening under Trump?

No, pointing out that the dems chose to enable this is not being fine with what's happening under Trump. Funding the gestapo being bad when the dems did it does not make it good when Trump does it.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fine as in, when considering that either Kamala or Trump would be president, you don't care which one got in, and the results we're seeing would be the same either way.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I absolutely do care, hence why I point out what needed to be done to change the outcome.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Voting for Kamala was what needed to be done to change the outcome.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

And doing fuckall to improve your constituents material conditions for 4 years while also facilitating genocide, sending the police to kick the shit out of the politically activated kids, you know the ones who phone bank and get all their friends to vote, funding ICE, etc is exactly how you make sure people won't vote for you.

Nothing I did encouraged the dems to do these things. Instead I encouraged the democrats to do the things they needed to do to win, while every lib demanding we vote blue no matter who 2 years away from the election helped them maintain the delusion the dems could win while telling their base to eat shit.

It would have been so easy too, all the dems had to do was not include ICE or Israel funding in the federal budget, or just refuse to dispense the funds, or order the head of ICE Biden appointed to fire everyone and spend the funds on something worthwhile, and suddenly the republicans symbolize returning this great evil the democrats just ended. But they had no interest in stopping any of that shit, and now here we are.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You're given 2 and only 2 options:

Option 1 - Every day:

  • A child is killed

Option 2 - Every day:

  • 10 children are killed
  • 5 puppies are set on file
  • Your neighbor gets stabbed
  • One item of your personal property is stolen from you

You have to pick either one of these options, or abstain and let someone you don't like pick for you instead.

You're standing there, telling your neighbor "at least I didn't pick a child killer!"

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

If you're campaigning on killing a child every day, you absolutely suck at your job and need to be replaced. It is predictable that many people aren't going to vote for you.

No logic or vote-shaming or whatever is going to make killing a child every day a popular policy. You can change policy, you can't convince voters that actually killing a child every day is OK because the other party wants to kill 10 children every day.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So, you’re upset about one child being killed a day and silent on 10 children being killed a day?

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

When have I been silent?

I have been screaming this shit would happen since they ratfucked Bernie in 2016

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Right, so you don't give a fuck about your neighbor. Stop pretending you do, and just admit you want to let bad people burn down the system and think your perfect ideology will rise from the ashes. If your neighbor gets stabbed, and babies start dying at an accelerated rate, so be it.

Just. Own. It.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

What the fuck are you talking about?

It seems like you just made a person up in your head to get mad at.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What part are you confused about?

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Look back at my posts and point to the thing I said that suggests I want to "let bad people burn down the system and think your perfect ideology will rise from the ashes".

Because that is the opposite of what I want, or what I expect would happen in America, so I'm confused what words I said that coukd possibly give that impression.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You’re standing there, telling your neighbor “at least I didn’t pick a child killer!”

The part where you abstained from helping your neighbor, and the 9 additional children, etc.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

When did I ever say anything about how I voted?

In any case, my individual vote had no effect at all on the outcome of the election. A change in dem policy and action would have had an effect.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You picked up an argument against people who pushed against voting for Kamala. If you're defending a position you don't hold, that's on you.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I pointed out what politicians need to do to get elected, namely improve the material conditions of the people whose votes they want, but other ways too. If you interpret "dems need to not suck shit to earn votes" as telling people not to vote, thats on you.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

If you want to pretend there wasn't a huge base of people here telling others that they are genocide supporters if they vote for Kamala, that's on you.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They are factually genocide supporters, this is the fault of the democratic party.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You're telling your bleeding neighbor he's a baby murder supporter, while pretending you care about him.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Who are the democrats in this metaphor? Some guy who was stabbing my bleeding neighbor with a different knife after Trump briefly stopped stabbing them?

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They're the ones that only kill the one baby.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

So why is your ire with the people who don't trust the guy who refuses to stop killing a baby every day? You get the guy to stop killing a baby every day and you'll have no issue getting people to trust them over the guy who kills 5.

But its really, really difficult to get people to enthusiastically support the guy who killed a baby every day, and promises to do it again.

It would be trivial if instead of killing babies, they stopped killing babies, then I could say "vote for our guy, the other guy is promising to resume the genocide", but instead we had dipshits in November of 2022 telling us to vote for more dead babies instead of telling the only alternative to the republicans "what the fuck, are you trying to lose?"

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So why is your ire with the people who don’t trust the guy who refuses to stop killing a baby every day?

It's not.

My ire is with the people who refused to do what was necessary to prevent the 9 additional babies from being killed every day, the neighbor stabbed, etc. They keep pretending to care about the babies and the neighbor, instead of just owning their choice.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes, thats the fucking democrats. They knew genocide, sending cops to kick the shit out of the politically engaged young people that make up the core of dem ground game, while calling them antisemitic, that trying to be republicans all lower turnout with the base, they did it anyway, they intend to do it again.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

^ You yelled at your neighbor, who's desperately bleeding out after begging you to pick option one and spare him and the other 9 babies from option too.

Of course that's no issue for you -- he picked option one and therefore that's the blood of a ~~liberal~~ fascist on the sidewalk.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wait, did my neighbor spend a year screaming at anybody that tried to tell the guy killing baby after baby that if he doesn't stop it, someone else is going to come kill 10 babies?

This isn't a good metaphor. The libs who got us here aren't the victims.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 1 points 1 week ago

Wait, did my neighbor spend a year screaming

Screaming what?
