I don't understand the "drag off" part. They don't eat them where they found them? Why?

If you've ever had a small enclosure or terrarium pet you will oftentimes see them drag off bits of prey or food you give them to some preferred spot or hidey-hole, this is in their instinct to want to either stay hidden, comfortable, or with a good view to look out for rivals or predators.
