On the plus side, 'proper holes' doesnt make me automatically think of sex stuff anymore.

On the other hand, certain visceral bloody metaphors for social conformity come to mind.

Well, I did think of sex stuff when making the comment... But authoritarian identification and monitoring systems also fit.
