The term "politically correct" was born out of this. It describes the process in which bad things are made more palatable through renaming. Other examples include:

  • war profiteering -> military industrial complex
  • imperialism -> spreading democracy
  • person killed by police -> officer-involved shooting
  • schools experiencing de facto segregation -> inner-city schools
  • white neighborhoods -> affluent neighborhoods
