Well, we attacked the country to the east, spent a trillion dollars, and failed to achieve our objective.

Then we attacked the country to the west, spent a trillion dollars, and failed to achieve our objective.

Why not complete the hat trick? Granted, with inflation, it will probably cost two trillion. But in the end, we'll get the same result - failing to achieve our objective.

That's assuming that "winning" a war is the objective and I don't think that's the case. Lots of people make lots of money from war, among many other objectives, and that is more true the longer the wars drag on.
