"Politically motivated assassinations"? Should we bring up the comparative list of politically-motivated extremist incidents in the US and see which side is enacting most of the violence?

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 84 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Including the ones in Minnesota today?

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The Minnesota ones are particularly interesting. The Democrats had a one-seat advantage in both chambers of the Minnesota legislature. The assassin specifically targeted one Democratic member of each chamber. The Minnesota House is now tied, and the Senate will be tied until Hoffman is able to work or (or Minnesota allows it, I'm not sure) is about to designate someone to vote for him.

There should be rules that disincentive assassination so this doesn't happen again.

Like, "murder is illegal"? Cuz, that's one lol

[–] apprehensively_human@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Specifically, any one party shouldn't be able to take advantage of a momentary shift in power due to an assassination of a member in the other party.

And how do you incentivise politicians to follow that rule?

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago

Obviously there is still enough incentive. Maybe the legislature should still get her vote, from like a deputy or assistant of some kind.

well the FBI said there's not enough evidence...

"politically motivated assassinations?" like the two Democratic politicians who were just murdered yesterday in Minnesota?

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No no, that's like school shootings in the USA, part of their apolitical culture!

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

It's mental illness!

I like how it's "politically motivated assassinations" while graffiti on a Tesla is terrorism.
