What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

unlikely considering how small lemmy is. Waste of resources.

[–] InvertedParallax@lemm.ee 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

No, they're here.

This is one place they test and refine candidate tactics, as well as roll them out to the more fringe on the left.

Trust Me, Bro.

[–] Supernova1051@sh.itjust.works 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I wouldn't completely rule it out. I suspect it's much easier to "taint" and disrupt smaller communities. A lot less resources could be strategically used against lemmy - or any other small platform - at their early growth stage.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 2 points 16 hours ago

But why bother with Lemmy when it's already filled with propaganda? All content on lemmy comes from mainstream social media to begin with, so it'll naturally flow into Lemmy.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not everyone is a russian troll, bad people exist everywhere.

And especially considering it's VTC, if I have to ascribe a group to them without proof, it's the Zizians.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world -1 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

I've noticed that the literal most sure way to recognise Russian trolls, is they're always insisting people aren't Russian trolls and that in fact, no such things actually even exist.

That's why Davel@lemmy.ml doesn't post on lemmy.world anymore.

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I know Russian trolls are on Lemmy. What is odd though is they seem to be everyone I don’t like.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 0 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Oh? Not for me.

For me it's just the pathetic wankers who avoid admitting that Putin is a war criminal with an ICC arrest out for him, justly, or if they do, they do it like "well allworld leaders are equally evil, Putin is no worse than Zelensky who" and then go on equivocating or whatabouting.

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

That was supposed to be humor.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 0 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

But you don't disagree about the pathetic wankers who can't admit to what a shitbag Putin is or do it while loudly proclaiming "all world leaders are", which means negating the criticism towards Putin. Literal whataboutism.

So you know, I'm just checking.

Because I noticed that quite often a lot of Russian trolls who are quakebuttocks who can be caught from what they refuse to talk about. Usually it's revealed by intense efforts to avoid saying something simple like "Putin is an international war criminal" and not all world leaders are like that. No whataboutism or equivocating.

I dislike everyone, but only accuse a small portion of those of being Russian trolls.

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, I don’t think they are Russian trolls, so much as “useful idiots”, as the Soviet Union called them. Westerners so obsessed with the Soviet aesthetic that they’re willing to spread obvious propaganda. I very highly doubt many of them are Russian at all, or have even been to one of the countries they idolize.

Because forget living in a communist country, they like the rights democracy is supposed to afford them and don’t wanna give that up. They just aren’t willing to admit it.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 0 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Do you know one other thing I've noticed? Those "Westerners" never describe themselves as "Westerners", but it's common parlance in Russia.

I notice you didn't take my implication that I'd like you to admit those things I pointed out, aloud. You know, just because.

Or perhaps you did... and you're purposefully avoiding it. Now who was it that I say does such things, most commonly...?

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I don’t need to admit anything like that. For one thing, I don’t know you or care what a random internet person thinks about my authenticity. For another, a quick look at my profile, or the comms I mod, will tell you all you need to know about what kind of person I am or am not.

Chances are, if you’re tossing around insults like “Russian troll”, you won’t like me regardless of whether you think I am one or not.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 0 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

I don’t need to admit anything like that.

Afraid of falling out of a window or having a bad cup of tea..?

No, there's no need to, but looking at your profile, you're a very politically active poster. It would be extremely weird for a very political poster not to have an opinion about the Russo-Ukrainian war, started illegally by Vladimir Putin, who has an ICC warrant out for him.

There was absolutely zero need for you to reply, but you can't help but to give yourself away.

Chances are, if you’re tossing around insults like “Russian troll”, you won’t like me regardless of whether you think I am one or not.

So now you are denying the existence of Russian disinformation? Because why would calling out Russian disinfo be considered bad... for people who are not pathetic pro-Russian wankers?

Edit since you don't like me, aren't you gonna call me a Russian troll, since you definitely believe in the existence of Russian trolls on Lemmy, just like you said? Here's one for example davel@lemmy.ml

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)
[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 0 points 50 minutes ago (1 children)

And you not answering means you're very obviously pro-Russian.

I know your ego makes you act silly, but have a look at what an exchange like this looks like from the outside.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/RGRc-OWLji0

Note that nice burn "I have a seven-, a six- and a three-year old, madam secretary, I have a bullshit detector." He's calling her a petulant child pretty directly while absolutely getting away with it.

But I think we all know what she believes about the thing she's refusing to comment on.

Just like from now on, everyone will know you're pro-Russian. Thanks!

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 38 minutes ago (1 children)
[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 0 points 35 minutes ago (1 children)

Oh wow, still avoiding the questions like a petulant child, while running away to a place that you can moderate. How original.

Why won't you say you're not pro-Russian? Because you're literally afraid that you could be killed or jailed for voicing an opinion like that?

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 31 minutes ago (2 children)

At this point, I'm not saying it out of spite.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 1 points 6 minutes ago* (last edited 6 minutes ago)

Just like I said, avoiding and then running to your own community which you moderate, so you can keep up this pretense. You just can't help yourself.

Like I said, none of your childish "now I'm not saying it out of spite :(" will be remotely believable to anyone, dude. You outed yourself as a pro-Russian. Good job, now you need to make another account, again.

Maybe it would be easier to, idk, be a fucking patriot and depose Putler so you can stop breaking international law and come out of the penalty box to play with the civilised world again?

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 0 points 29 minutes ago

Yeah, right.

Who do you think you're fooling, honestly?

It's like you're a (pro-Russian) kid caught with a hand in the cookie jar, saying "it wasn't me".
