I maintain the only fucked up name in that series is Duncan Idaho and it's because he's some normal ass dude. Paul and Jessica and Leto are all names with, by the time of Dune, ancient heritage going back to Earth. Makes total sense that far future aristocrats are using the names of their mythical ancestors. But Duncan? He's just some dude. Why is he bearing the name of Idaho, a region of the lost Earth? He's not noble and has no mythical heritage going back to the dawn of time.

Language is funny though it's entirely possible Idaho potatoes got transported to another planet. People started calling them Idaho's and then Idaho became a peasant/farmer surname divorced from context etc
