Maybe I’m playing too passively. I’m just running around in circles while thinking what to do next: which enemy, which weapon..
The game definitely wants you to be aggressive, but you can sometimes just run around to think for a few seconds. I do it sometimes to wait for my chainsaw cooldown to finish, because I need ammo. Or shoot an Imp in the face for a Glory Kill. These animations also give you some extra time to decide your next step. Enemies usually don't continuously spawn, until the arena is just packed. There are always exceptions of course, like Totems or Archviles, but they aren't super common.
