The Pope's fucking dead.
He gave JD Vance three chocolate easter eggs, exchanged pleasantries for 17 minutes, and then keeled over and died.
What a way to go.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.

Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

Two Syrias:
The Friendly Face
⭕️ Syrian interim leader Ahmad al-Sharaa met with US Congressman Marlin Stutzman at the People’s Palace in Damascus today
“The Syrians are very friendly, and there are many possibilities for cooperation with the new Syrian government,” Stutzman said.
He expressed hope that “the Syrians would enjoy more economic opportunities and prosperity.”
Rep. Marlin Stutzman of Indiana and Rep. Cory Mills of Florida became the first US lawmakers since the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to visit Damascus, on an unofficial trip organized by a "Syrian-American nonprofit."
During their visit, the representatives met with Syrian officials and notably visited the site of a historic synagogue in the suburb of Jobar and the Christian neighborhood of Bab Touma, where they spoke with religious leaders.
The Reality
Alaa Jbeili, a young man from Jabourin, Lattakia, was murdered by armed gangs while returning from work in Damascus. The attack occurred in the Deir Atiyah area along the Damascus–Lattakia highway.
Alaa had been working as a private driver using his Kia vehicle to support his family.

Ibrahim Muhammad al-Akkari and Ali Shaaban al-Akkari, both fathers of two and residents of the village of Al-Maw'ah, were killed by unknown assailants.
The victims were transporting cheese and dairy products on their motorcycles when they were ambushed and fatally shot with live ammunition on the road leading to Arab Abu Talisa village in the western Hama countryside.
4(.) Announcement from the Syrian Alawites Union in Europe
The Legal Office of the Syrian Alawites Union in Europe urgently announces the following:
We have observed a dangerous and systematic escalation in the forced displacement of residents from the Ghab Plain and the rural areas of Hama and Homs. This campaign coincides with the organized settlement of non-Syrians in these regions. Increasing cases of property seizures—homes and agricultural lands—at gunpoint have been documented, along with the eviction of lawful owners.
In response, the Union calls on all individuals—members and non-members alike—to provide documented evidence of such violations. This is part of an effort to prepare for legal action and international criminal prosecution, as these acts constitute war crimes under international law.
Required Documentation:
A copy of a title deed or any official document proving ownership.
A copy of the complainant’s ID or passport.
A detailed written report outlining the violation, along with any supporting documents.
Please send your submissions to the Union’s Legal Office at: Rechtsabteilung@usaeuropa.org
Together, we will raise our voices and pursue justice through all available international legal channels.

Some more context for the final notice:
Hama, Homs & Lattakia | Forced Displacement and Demographic Change Target Alawite Communities
Systematic forced displacements continue across Syria, particularly targeting Alawite-majority areas. In eastern Hama (Salamiyah countryside), more than 20 villages once home to over 15,000 Alawites have been emptied solely due to their sectarian identity. These villages include:
Balil, Al-Zaghba, Al-Talisiyya, Ma'an, Al-Fan Al-Wastani, Al-Fan Al-Qibli, Abu Mansaf, Al-Mubtan, Mariod, Al-Tuba, Nawa, Halban, Al-Thawra, Sheikh Ali Kassoun, Taldahab, Sabaa, Al-Buwaydah, Al-Ruwaif, and Al-Shiha.
Following the displacement, families from Raqqa and the Hama countryside—mainly Bedouins—were relocated to these areas, reinforcing a deliberate demographic engineering strategy.
In the western Hama countryside, similar operations have occurred. Villages such as Matin, Al-Aziziyah, and Arza were cleared of their original Alawite inhabitants, with people from Khattab resettled in their place after a series of brutal massacres.
The pattern extends to northern Homs, where the village of Tasnin and its surroundings have also faced mass expulsions. Concurrently, Alawite neighborhoods in the city of Homs are experiencing campaigns of intimidation and gradual displacement.
In northern Latakia, several villages affiliated with the Rabia district—including Zagharo, Jouret al-Ma, Al-Kandisiya, Qasr Joureh, and Mazraat Bayt Faris—have been forcibly emptied. Again, Bedouins were brought in to replace the displaced Alawite residents.
These coordinated acts of forced displacement and sectarian targeting reflect a broader policy aimed at redrawing the demographic map of Syria.
