A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I learned how to look at these things a certain way along time ago thanks to Star Trek the next generation:
Captain Picard was, perhaps, one of the most powerful men in the entire galaxy. He was short, bald, and a principaled dork. And he was one of the most respected people in the entire galaxy because of it.
I don’t give a shit about the hair that I’ve lost, and I don’t give a shit about the fact that I’m 5 foot seven. My principles are unassailable, and I will defend my friends to the death, as well, I defend what is right.
Edit: although it may take some serious effort, I am capable of admitting when I am wrong
That’s what makes me a good person. Not what other people think of my hairline.
I also absolutely love how Stewart described Roddenberry standing up for him when a reported asked:
That line goes hard.
See the fact that you have that strength of character is why you don't have to pull the stupid shit they all do.
I've been ugly, I've been hot. I've been unprincipled, I've been principled. I've been charmless, and I've been charming. Listen, I'm gonna keep aiming to be principled, charming, and hot in that order.
Being ugly sucks but you can easily get past it. Being off putting sucks, but people who know you know you. Being unprincipled seems great until your reputation is terrible and you have to live with yourself
Flashback of him getting stabed in the heart during a bar fight while in the academy
Because of princples.
That makes you and I, kin.
You cant ignore, though, that society has associated beauty with morality. It's not accurate but it's a human condition.
It's also why you get these conventially beautiful people as trumps mouth pieces. Not that people can't see through the lies and deceit but the more physically attractive they are the more buffer they have with the general populace.
Yeah, this is why I smoke and drink so much. I am already convinced. You don’t need to remind me why I waited a minute.
It’s all true, just, seriously, I’ll do it on my own time
