Dude, I love horror too. I love sharing horror media with other people. I cast my net far and wide in that category. Movies, games, books, short stories, music, podcasts, art installations, internet horror stories, ARG’s, true crime etc. Name a category and I’ll recommend what I know and think is good.

I tend to lurk on r/horror. Sure, throw some recommends my way!

I've watched the bad and the great and most everything in between, from the 1960s and especially the 1970s (probably my overall favorite era) forward to whatever is most recent and available on Netflix, Prime or the high seas...but so often I miss some deep cut or some indie thing in more recent times, so I'm game to hear your input.

I actually wrote you a long message with recommendations and then the comment crashed because I wrote too much (I guess?) So I'll just stick to just movie recommendations this time. I've tried to stick to lesser known horror movies that I think are either brilliant or interesting or both. There are some movies I'd like to put on the list, but since you say you are well versed in horror, I assume you know those already as they are pretty mainstream. I will make a few exceptions along the way, though, as I may consider some of them mainstream, but they might still be movies that someone could have missed.

I think that is all for now. Hopefully there will be a few films on this list you haven't come across yet. They aren't all masterpieces, but I tried to pick films that I found entertaining and/or interesting and that I think deserve more recognition.

Thanks! I have to go through these. I think I've seen quite a few of these, but definitely some I have not, so I'm copying this off...have you seen The Creep series?

[–] Nangijala@feddit.dk 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Cool! I just looked it up and I had no idea they made an actual Creep TV series. That's so cool. XD would you recommend it? I guess you would since you mentioned it haha.

It's definitely enjoyable. Maybe not as good as the movies, and gets into a bit more lore about him than I think we really need to know, but...still, I've seen far worse.

My tolerance for rather low-quality horror is pretty high. I'll watch really low-budget movies with not much coherence or plot or acting skills, all the way up to things deemed more "respectable" by general audiences, too... :)

Nice! Reminds me a bit of the later seasons of The White Vault. First two seasons: masterpieces. Everything after that starts to over explain a little too much. Still enjoyable, but it just explains too much and kinda cheapens the universe. Have you listened to the White Vault? It's a radioplay/podcast that takes a lot of inspiration from The Thing. It's really good! Well... the first two seasons are. XD

You sound a lot like one of my colleagues who has an endless love for shit tier horror movies. XD the worse they are the happier he is. If the movies are worse than Manos: The Hands of Fate, he is in heaven xD he used to make movie nights at work where people could join and watch horrible horror movies on a big screen. Man, I miss him xD

The White Vault

I will definitely check it out. I need to catch up on Archive 81 and The Magnus Archives, too.

endless love for shit tier horror movies

Haha! I don't know about "love", per se. :) I usually power through for at least a one-time viewing, more like. I usually like the "better" movies, if you will, but I won't turn my nose up at the ones that the cultural gatekeepers tend to look down on. Meaning, there is a certain kind of horror movie watcher that seems to need a permission structure to watch horror movies. If the zeitgeist says something like "Get Out" is okay, then they'll watch it. Conversely, there are a lot of contrarians that tend to look down on PG-13 movies with jump scares aimed at teens and the popcorn crowd, and I think a lot of those are just fine in many cases.

Me, I'm pretty easy about it all. I'm just so happy there is so much content to select from now, both in what is coming out, and being able to watch comfort food classics any time I want...also getting my hands on foreign films or "cult films" has never been easier as well...there was a time where someone would mention something to you - IRL, for the most part, or maybe in the early days on a BBS or on USENET and you'd have to see if you could track it down at a video store or see if there was some catalog you'd send away for it...and that was usually way out of reach for me, when it came to both time and money.
