After quite a break from JRPGs, due to Witcher 3 being so long, I recently started Metaphor.
Currently, I'm almost at the end of the first dungeon, I assume. So far, the game has been awesome. Give me anything with Press Turn and/or proper resource management and I'm in love with it. Although, I was surprised just how similar the game is to Persona 5. What they did change however was really good thus far.
Similarities
We've got 'Personas', they even got their own awakening cutscene. On the surface, the initial squat is just Joker, Morgana, Makoto and Ryuji in fantasy clothes. Their personalities don't match exactly, but they fill a similar role. Of course, we've got the time management and 'Palaces'. There's a 'Velvet Room', we have social stats and links. Even your first hideout is a food place, although I think that one's not permanent.I loved Hulkenberg by the end. Her quirks are great, yet she's shockingly insightful at times. I feel like having older characters than usual gave the writers room to stretch a bit.
She's been pretty much my favorite character since the start, although for somewhat superficial reasons. I really like her name and the moment I first saw her I instantly realised this game is the 'Project Re:Fantasy' from about 8 years ago and Hulkenberg was actually in Etrian Odyssey Nexus. I completely forgot about it until then, otherwise 'Re:Fantazio' might have clued me in. Good to see that her writing is also great!
I expect a more different kind of game as well since it's not part of the Shin megami Tensei/Persona... world and has a completly new name and world building. They have different monster, but at the end at lot mechanics or gamestyle elements from Persona or Megami Tensei games.
