"The U.S. cannot treat Colombian migrants as criminals," Petro wrote. Petro said even though there were 15,660 Americans without legal immigration status in Colombia, he would never carry out a raid to return handcuffed Americans to the United States. "We are the opposite of the Nazis," he wrote, in a jab at Trump. Mexico also refused a request last week to let a U.S. military aircraft land with migrants.

....how is forced sterilization along the lines of anything happening today with deportations?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Again, the denial of citizenship is where it starts, then the classification of "undesirable." You are here.

[–] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Denial of citizenship is something every county does. Is every country on the verge of nazi-ism?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Taking someone who is a citizen and telling them "No, you aren't, not anymore." is NOT something every country does.

The whole point of revoking birthright citizenship is EXACTLY that.

[–] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

No, it's to stop birthright tourism.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

If that were true, they wouldn't also be arguing to remove birthright citizenship from Native Americans.

Look, you have no idea what you're talking about, it's past time you stop.

[–] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

They haven't argued that? They were trying to push it through based on an old case, and it was blocked. Nowhere in that article does it say they're trying to end citizenship for native americans

Again, you don't know what you're talking about and need to stop.

FTA:

"Over the past week, there have been Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids across the country.

Citizens of the Navajo Nation, which spans across parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah, have reported being incorrectly identified as illegal immigrants during ICE raids"

Okay so then what happened after? Were they shipped off to another country? Or were they let go when they realized there's been a mistake?

Mistakes happen. It sucks, but no one is perfect

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

It's being challenged in the courts as we speak.

[–] OceanSoap@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Okay? So the process is..... Working?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Nope, not yet, because Trump controls the courts.
