In dismantling the old patriarchal family model and sexual rules of it, the younger generation replaced it with something approximating today's hookup culture. Random individualistic hedonism. She was separating love from its bourgeois understanding. Instead she framed meaningful relationships as love-comradeship where you're dedicated to that partner's self-actualisation and political activism. It's the model I use for relationships.
Love-comrade is going in my lexicon. It is impossible to easily explain my relationship with my partner to people, so I just refer to her as my partner in crime.
Sex has been out of the equation for several years but we stay committed to each other and work to support and carry each other through life. I will never leave her unless she decides thats what she wants. She's my person.
