Kowloon Walled City is really fascinating in the most dystopian way. It's such a shame that there is no good, high quality footage really documenting the place.
And it's mind blowing to me that it was originally built in the 1840s. I would have guessed 1940s or 1950s. But no. Crazy. And for the longest time, I thought that it was just housing. But no, as you see in this video, it really was like its own city, but trapped inside of these dark, dank, crowded buildings.
Well I think a lot of it was built over time. That may have been when it started but it evolved more organically than most cities due to lack of top-down planning.
