When I was younger I had a major fascination with Chinese history and philosophy but totally bought the US line that the modern state was authoritarian, oppressive, and expansionist (#FreeTibet ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ)

Been wondering what might've gone differently if I went outside my bubble and actually talked to folks and put in the effort to learn Mandarin, but I guess now's as good a time as any to start.
